In this research we explore how something quite remarkable happens when we allow the brain to witness its own EEG. It is effectively looking at itself in a mirror. Watching that activity, it does not take long for the brain to recognize its connection to the signal on the screen.

It is witnessing its own neuronal dance, and that provides a basis for the brain improving on its dance. Neurofeedback, then, is nothing more than a guided way for the brain to improve its own function based on the information it is getting on its own activity.

Siegfried Othmer, Neurofeedback and Enlightened Awareness, The Aware Show.

Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback is a specialized form of biofeedback where the brain learns to work more efficiently through the direct training of brain function. This allows for the relief of emotional and brain-based symptoms. As the brain controls your emotional well-being, psychological health and every system in your body, training it into better function has far reaching benefits. I am trained in the Othmer Method of neurofeedback and offer a variety of brain wave training options, selected to suit each individual.

Heartmath

Heartmath is another useful biofeedback tool I use in my practice. It focuses on increasing coherence, which is the synchrony between the heart, brain, and lungs. It is a total body experience that is calming and centering. More information about it can be found on their product and institute websites.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are a result of disturbing life experiences. By using EMDR therapy, people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy in a much shorter time than traditional approaches which can take years to make a difference.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

ART is a form of psychotherapy that utilizes eye movements to help clients address common problems such as depression, anxiety, phobias and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In Accelerated Resolution Therapy, you focus on a problem while concurrently using eye movements. During this process, the brain makes new connections with a person’s strengths and problem-solving abilities. It produces quick and effective results. ART is effective with adults as well as children.
