what is Neurofeedback?

winfNeurofeedback is the direct training of brain function, by which the brain learns to work more efficiently, allowing the relief of emotional and brain-based symptoms. As the brain controls your emotional well-being, psychological health and every system in your body, training it into better function has far reaching benefits.

Neurofeedback training for the brain is similar to physical training for the body. Many illnesses, disorders or unwanted behavior patterns are due to dysregulation of brain activity, and with Neurofeedback, patients can learn to achieve more functionality by retraining the brain. The brain is designed to adapt to changes in our body and the environment, so it makes sense that we should be able to re-train the brain to function optimally, the way it was designed.

How Does It Work?

sue_jonUsing sensors and special software we simply measure the brain activity and reflect it back through a video display. When we allow the brain to see its own activity, it can then adjust itself for better performance and function. Nothing is ever being transmitted into the brain, we are only recording and using the information revealed to us through the EEG.

By improving self-regulation of brain activity, we improve how our clients function cognitively, emotionally and behaviorally. This applies whether the client is an adult suffering from symptoms like chronic headaches, or a child dealing with more severe disorders like autism or epilepsy. It can also be a very useful tool for athletes, entrepreneurs or anyone looking to maximize their performance and function.

What Neurofeedback System Do You Use?

I am trained in the Othmer Method of Neurofeedback. I use the Cygnet software and NeuroAmp by BeeMedic in my office. This method of neurofeedback is a symptom based approach which does not require brain mapping. A person’s symptoms are tracked regularly, with a 1-10 rating by the client, as a guide towards relief. Success is achieved by reducing symptoms. Adjustments can be made in the protocol to promote the achievement of client’s goals.
